The music, the tractors, the food...

By Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

This year marks the 24th annual Dozinky Festival. One of the festival's charms is that it offers so much to so many people.

Patterned after a Czech Harvest Festival, Dozinky first salutes the early settlers of the community and their Czech heritage. This is evident with the music, the costumes and this year with the Czech Heritage Club's Czech Village.

New Prague's agricultural history is a rich one and the festival also salutes this. It is, after all, a harvest festival. The name of the parade is evidence of this as well, The Parade of Farm Pride.

One of the most important aspects of any culture is its food. The Dozinky Festival offers plenty of opportunities to explore this part of the Czech culture, with pork and dumplings, kolacky, vomacka and many other Czech delights. You can find a complete list in our Official Dozinky Guide included in this week's issue.

And you won't have to go far on Saturday to find some traditional Czech music. There will be several stages with a number of bands playing old-time music throughout the day.

So regardless of whether you're Czech, we invite you to stop by, explore our community and enjoy a day dedicated to saluting our heritage.
