New church to hold first service

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold its first service in its new church on Father's Day, Sunday, June 17.

Steve Mitton, Branch President for New Prague, said the service will be held at 10 a.m., and everyone is welcome to attend. He added the majority of interior work in the new church is completed, with landscaping still to be done on the outside.

Located at the corner of First Street NW and Jefferson Avenue NW in Raven Stream Village, the building will be able to seat 300 people. The structure is situated on about six acres, which leaves enough room for expansion.

Mitton said an open house is being planned for sometime in July.

Members of New Prague's branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which is an offshoot of a church in Burnsville, broke ground for their new church building about one year ago. The New Prague branch has been holding services for several years at New Prague City Hall.
