New Market Town Board nixes school proposal
By Chuck Kajer
New Market Township turned down a request Tuesday evening from On-Site Marketing to allow the City of New Market to annex 170 acres, including a 60-acre site that would be purchased by the New Prague Area School District.
On a 2-1 vote, with Harry Anderson and Joel Helmberger voting against and LeRoy Clausen in favor, the township board denied the proposal.
Helmberger told The New Prague Times that the vote does not represent a vote against the planned elementary school that school district voters had approved in December.
I’m all for the school. What we voted against was the 170-acre annexation proposal by On-Site Marketing
