New Prague gymnasts take 4th at state
The New Prague Trojan gymnastics team took fourth place at the State Class A Meet at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
The Trojans scored a season-high 143.75 points in the meet. Perham took first place with 149.9, followed by Becker (144.975) and Martin County Area (144.375). Melrose was fifth (142.675), Austin was sixth (140.825), Delano (138.525) and Breck (134.725).
At Saturday's individual meet, the Trojans' Jess Hoffman and Laura Busch both earned medals. Hoffman placed fifth on the floor exercise with a 9.475. Katelyn Rittenour of Becker won the event with a 9.625.
Busch was sixth on the balance beam with a 9.375. Amy Crawford of Detroit Lakes scored a 9.575 to win the event.

Vault: Sydney Samson, 9.05
Bars: Brooke Ellanson 8.775; Ashley Wagner 8.575
Beam: Hoffman 9.25
Floor: Wagner 9.075, Sarah Hoffman 8.825
All-Around: Jess Hoffman 36.15.
Trojan coach Matt Shetka said the fourth place finish was a good score for his team. They had thought going into the final event that they could move up a place or two, but their bar scores were average.
