New Prague man airlifted after Jan. 22 crash

By Patrick Fisher

A head-on crash between two vehicles occurred early January 22 along Rice County Road 86 with one person being airlifted from the scene.

According to the Rice County Sheriff’s Office the crash happened at 1:05 p.m. on Scott/Rice County Road 86, three-fourths of a mile east of Highway 19. Brian Blumberg, 26, of Webster was westbound in a 1994 Ford truck on the county road when he came up behind a Rice County snowplow, also westbound. Blumberg became disoriented due to snow from the plow, which was also being blown about by a south wind. He wandered into the eastbound lane, colliding with a 1997 GMC Jimmy being driven by Michael Horejsi, 20, of New Prague.

Mayo One airlifted Horejsi from the scene of the crash to Hennepin County Medical Center. He suffered a broken arm, leg and was treated for other injuries before being released.

Horejsi’s passenger, Mary Schoenbauer, 19, was transported by New Prague Ambulance to Queen of Peace Hospital where she was treated and released.

Blumberg was taken to Queen of Peace by a private vehicle, and was also treated and released.

Also at the scene were the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Lonsdale Fire Department and ambulances from Lonsdale and Northfield.
