New Prague teacher, coach, dies of heart attack - UPDATED 12-11-12

     Matt Shetka, New Prague Middle School teacher and head gymnastics and girls golf coach at New Prague High School, died Sunday, Dec. 9, from a heart attack while shoveling snow in front of his home in New Prague.
    Shetka taught social studies at New Prague Middle School and was beginning his 33rd year as head coach of the Trojan gymnastics program. He led the Trojans to three team state championships and this year’s team is considered one of the favorites for the Class A title. He has had numerous state qualifiers and state individual champions. He has also been the Trojan girls golf coach for the past 15 years—the Trojans have won two state championships in the last three years.
    Shetka is survived by his wife Meg, a teacher at Eagle View Elementary in the New Prague district, and four adult sons, Aaron, Dan, Andy and Zack.
   Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague, with Pastor Steven Trewartha of FaithPoint Lutheran Church presiding. Visitation is at Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
