Newsletter winner gets free breakfast

The saying normally goes, “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”, but there is such a thing as a “free breakfast”. Just ask Donna Benzick of Montgomery who was treated to a free breakfast from Mayor Jean Keogh on Sunday, Jan. 27.
Benzick and the Mayor had breakfast at Kohout’s Café, located on First Street, next to the Palace Bar. The Mayor treated Benzick after her submission of the name “City Highlights” won the “Name the Newsletter” contest.
Benzick said the name “City Highlights” came to her as she was reading the first issue of the new newsletter in November, 2012.
“I just thought of it out of the blue,” she said. “There was just a lot of interesting information to read.”
Keogh said the contest drew 24 entries, all of which were “very, very good” suggestions.
The Mayor said the final decision for Benzick’s entry came after a meeting between council members and city staff.
A lifelong resident of Montgomery, Benzick said she was surprised to learn that her submission won.
“I am so very grateful they chose my entry for the city newsletter contest,” she said. “It made my day.”
The next edition of the newsletter will be sometime in April, Keogh said, before the City-Wide Cleanup in May.
