Nine running for Elko New Market Council
Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer
History will be made during the general election on November 7 when the first Elko New Market City Council is elected. In a referendum earlier this year, the two cities in southeastern Scott County agreed to merge, effective January 1, 2007.
Nine people have filed for the five spots on the council that includes the position of mayor and four council members. Current Elko Mayor Kent Hartzler will face Henry Zweber of New Market for the mayor's seat of the newly organized city.
Mayor
Kent Hartzler moved to Elko in 1999, and began serving on the planning commission in 2000.
Since then, he has been involved in city government, either on the Elko City Council or as mayor. He and his wife, Liz, have four children, three in college and one in middle school. Hartzler works as a pilot for Sun Country Airlines.
I enjoy what we're doing
