Cougars 3, Trojans 3 (OT, tie)

A battle of freshman goaltenders resulted in a back-and-forth contest that ended in a 3-3 overtime tie between the host Trojans and Lakeville South Tuesday at the New Prague Area Community Center.

South's Chelsea Laaden stopped 40 of 43 shots, and New Prague's Shyler Sletta, getting her first varsity start, stopped 20 of 23 in the stalemate. Trojan senior Kacy Ambroz did all the scoring for the Trojans, getting a hat trick.

South got the first goal of the game on a power play early in the first period. In the second, Ambroz scored at 1:29, assisted by Breanna Bisek and Ashley Jones. Less than two minutes later, the Trojans took a 2-1 lead when Ambroz scored unassisted at 2:48.

The Cougars tied the game late in the period, then scored at 2:54 of the third on a power play to take a 3-2 lead. Ambroz scored, from Jones and Breanne Hrabe, at 6:43 to tie it.

Both teams had plenty of opportunities to win the game in the overtime period, but both Laaden and Sletta shut the door
