No. 7 Trojans to host No. 6 Simley Friday
The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team went to 4-2 on the season, splitting a pair of non-conference games last week. The Trojans defeated Waconia 64-59, then lost to Hopkins 64-56. New Prague (No. 7, Class AAA) was scheduled to face Glencoe-Silver Lake Tuesday, Dec. 11. They will host Simley (No. 6, Class AAA) at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14. The Trojans travel to Mankato West on Thursday, Dec. 20.
Trojans 64, Wildcats 59
New Prague led most of the way, holding a 31-25 hafltime lead, but host Waconia used a surge to tie the game early in the second half before the Trojans regained control for the five-point win. New Prague’s tough defense forced 21 turnovers, and that made up for a 38-28 rebounding margin advantage for Waconia. The Trojans shot just 35 percent from the field, but made 26 of 35 free throws. Four Trojans reached double figures, led by Annie Dittberner with 18 points. Jess Allar and Lexi Ruehling both had 14 and Ella Grote added 10. Other Trojans scoring were Steph Hanson (5), Maize Deihl (2) and Kayla Kroyer (1). Ruehling led the Trojans on the boards with eight rebounds, while Hanson had seven. Hanson also had four steals, while Dittberner and Allar each had three assists.
Royals 64, Trojans 46
New Prague grabbed an early lead, but was no match for Hopkins (No. 1, Class AAAA) in a non-conference contest at New Prague Friday, Dec. 7. The Royals shot 57 percent from the floor and while the Trojans did force 18 turnovers, they committed 21 of their own. Dittberner was the only Trojan in double figures, scoring 17 points. Other Trojans scoring were Allar (8), Grote (6), Ruehling (5), Rachel Haecherl (4), Kroyer (4) and Deihl (2). Grote had six rebounds and three assists to lead the Trojans in both categories, while Hanson had five steals.
