Norbert “Norb” Gill, age 86

Norbert “Norb” Gill, age 86, of Union Hill, died suddenly and peacefully at home with his wife by his side on Thursday, June 9, 2016.

Norbert was born July 10, 1929, in Derrynane Township, Le Sueur County, MN to Joseph and Eva (Dorzinski) Gill. He was born and raised in the Union Hill area and attended St. Wenceslaus School. Norb married Betty M. Giesen on October 22, 1960, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Union Hill. They made their home, raised their family, and farmed the family farm on the west side of Union Hill. Norb was a member of Pioneer Power, the Knights of Columbus, the Union Hill Baseball Board, the Sportsmen's Club, and served as a supervisor for Derrynane Township for a number of years. His love of the land made him an avid gardener and he was noted for his horseradish. Norb played hockey as a youth, league bowled for many years, and remained a sports fan all his life, enjoying particularly baseball and basketball. His hobbies included a love of deer hunting and ice fishing, often going out numerous times a week during the winter. He enjoyed his daily morning breakfast club along with the occasional card game with a group of his buddies. He was a man of deep faith; his highest priority was the time spent with his loving wife, his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren.

Norb is survived by his wife, Betty of Union Hill; children, Barb (Roger) Beckius of New Prague, Brenda (Ken) Kubes of New Prague, Mark (Connie) Gill of New Prague, Mick (Nancy) Gill of New Market, Sue (Pat) Russo of New Prague, Terri (Paul) Berg of New Prague; 13 grandchildren; 2 greatgrandchildren; brother, Joseph Gill of St. Paul; sister, Rosie Gill of New Prague; sisters-in-law, Agnes Gill of St. Thomas, Mary Ann Gill of Belle Plaine, Joyce Gill of Milwaukee, WI.
