Northfield, Shakopee top Trojans

The New Prague Trojan volleyball team lost a pair of games to former Missota Conference foes last week. They dropped a four-set match at home to Northfield Tuesday, Sept. 29, then were swept at Shakopee (No. 6, Class AAA) Thursday, Sept. 1.

The Trojans were scheduled to take on another stateranked team, playing at No. 7 AAAHopkins Tuesday, Sept. 6. This weekend they travel to Marshall for the Southwest Minnesota Challenge, where their first match will be against Eastview Friday, Sept. 9. New Prague has two home matches next week, hosting Belle Plaine (No. 2, AA) Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Mankato East on Thursday, Sept. 15.

Raiders 3, Trojans 1 New Prague dropped the first set, won the second, but then lost the next two in a losing effort against Northfield. Scores were 25-15, 23- 25, 25-18. 25-17.

"When we are in our system, we can do some nice things," Coach Angie Andersen said. "We need to work on staying mentally tough throughout the contest."

McKenna Vacek led the Trojans with 28 serve receptions and 15 digs. Anna Eaton had 25 serve receptions and 11 digs, and Sophia Anderson had 13 digs. She also had 36 set assists.

Lexi Johnson had 20 kills and Anna Eaton added 18 for the Trojans. Johnson added three service aces. Maggie O’Neill had two blocks.
