NPHS checks into the funnier side of dating

The humorous side of dating will be featured in "Check Please," New Prague High School’s spring play. The two performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, at the high school auditorium, 221 12th St. NE.

The play is under the direction of Ben Thietje with technical director Matt Stensrud and shop teacher Dave Edberg taking care of set designs.

The production, written by Jonathan Rand, shows how hard dating can be, especially when those dates happen to be a raging kleptomaniac, grandmother's bridge partner and a mime. "Check Please" follows two main characters on a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do.

"The kids are really having a fun time with this one. It's a unique play because each student gets their very own scene," said Thietje. "They're each going to have their moment to shine, which is great since these students have so much talent to display."

Student cast and crew are Corey Bardon, Lexi Barta, Julia Bartusek, Zac Carney, Amir Chraibi, Michael Coldagelli, Kacie Connelly, Becky Daleiden, Emma Deihl, Hunter Doheny, Korrin Dvorak, Andy McNab, Brianna Meyer, Charlie Murphy, Hallie O'Neill, Alex Schaeffer, Emily Schoenbauer, Sara Schoenbauer, Richard Scrivener, Amy Simon, Sam Sobieck, Sophie Vilensky and Eric Wagner.

Thietje said rehearsals have been going well. "As usual, we've got a wonderful set designed and built by Edberg and his students. I'm really looking forward to this weekend."
