NPHS fall sports season starts Aug. 15

The school year is fast approaching and the fall sports season will kick off at New Prague High School next week.

Practices for cross country, girls tennis, volleyball, football and girls swimming will all begin Monday, Aug. 15. New Prague High School athletic director Bob Scripture announces the following schedule for high school athletes next week.

Boys and Girls Cross Country — Practice starts at 8 am. Monday, Aug. 15, at the high school for grades 9-12, with coach Julie Berg. The team’s first meet is St. Olaf Invitational at St. Olaf College in Northfield on Friday, Sept. 2. New Prague will host its own invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the high school.

Girls Tennis practice for grades 9-12 starts at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the high school tennis courts. Matt Duoss is the new coach for the team. The team opens its schedule Tuesday, Aug. 23, at home against Chaska. The team will host an eight-team home invitational Saturday, Aug. 27, with Faribault, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Maple River, Minnetonka, Roseau, Thief River Falls, United South Central.

Volleyball; Practice for grades 10-12 starts at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the high school. Pauline Mankowski returns as coach. The team opens its season Thursday, Aug. 25, when they host Owatonna. Ninth grade volleyball will practice beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Football: Practice for grades 9-12 in the Trojan football program starts at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at the high school. Tony Buthe is the coach. New Prague opens its 2005 season at home Friday, Sept. 2, against St. Michael-Albertville.

Girls Swimming: the cooperative Montgomery-Lonsdale/New Prague girls swimming team will begin practice Monday, Aug. 15, at the Montgomery pool. Girls from grades 7-12 will practice at 8 a.m., and a bus will leave at 7:15 a.m. from New Prague Middle School.

Practice for New Prague seventh and eight graders in football, volleyball, cross country and tennis will start Thursday, Sept. 1, the first day of school.

Athletic fees are $125 for all sports, grades 9-12, except swimming, and should be made out to New Prague High School. Athletic fees are $55 for seventh and eighth graders. Fees for swimming are $80 for grades 9-12 and $55 for grades 7-8, and should be made out to Montgomery-Lonsdale High School.

There will be a meeting of all New Prague High School athletes, grades 9-12, and their parents at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15 at the high school. Middle School athletes will meet Monday, Aug. 22, in the middle school gym.

At these meetings, all forms and fees will be turned in. Also, rules and policies will be discussed at the meetings.

After the meeting on rules and policies, athletes and parents will meet with the head coaches.
