NPHS names two new head coaches

New Prague High School has named head coaches for two high-profile sports for the 2009-10 school year.

Activities director Brad Skogerboe announced last week that Jim Benick will be the new head football coach and Tim Dittberner the new head boys basketball coach.

Skogerboe is currently looking for two more head coaches. Volleyball coach Emily Jasperson and Girls Swimming and Diving Coach Julie Hull both resigned within the past few weeks, and Skogerboe needs to find replacements before the fall season begins.

Jim Benick

Benick has taught the last six years at Blaine High School, and was been offensive coordinator at White Bear Lake High School the past three years. He also served as offensive coordinator at Blaine and previously was a head coach at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Bay Port High School in Green Bay, WI.

Benick is a native of St. Paul and attended Johnson High School and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. He later served as an assistant football coach at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul and at UW River Falls before beginning his high school coaching career.

He said he left Wisconsin Rapids, which competes in one of the larger conferences in Wisconsin, because he wanted to return to the Twin Cities for family reasons, and has been looking for a head coaching opportunity since then. Benick will also teach physical education and health at the high school in New Prague.

I've been meeting with other coaches and working to put a staff together. We plan to have a player meeting in the next week or so
