NPMS wins Touchstone Energy Community Award

Minnesota Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) has selected the New Prague Middle School Student Council as the winner of the local 2007 Touchstone Energy Community Award. The council was awarded a $250 check, which will be used to help the group coordinate activities in the community.

The student council, which includes sixth through eighth graders, demonstrates a strong commitment to community MVEC highly values. Locally, the club is dedicated to year-round projects that benefit people and communities in the surrounding areas. Their continuing projects include cleaning the school grounds, providing music sessions for Mala Strana residents twice per month and coordinating safe events for students and parents. They write letters to the troops in Iraq and raise money for national charities such as Pennies for Patients and Walk for Diabetes.

MVEC sought candidates for the Touchstone Energy Community Award, which recognizes individuals or organizations for outstanding contributions to the local community. As a Minnesota Touchstone Energy Cooperative, MVEC is pleased to have an opportunity to recognize those who impact the community in a positive way.

The New Prague Middle School Student Council application will be submitted for consideration in the statewide Minnesota Touchstone Energy Community Award, along with approximately 20 other local winners from around the state. The winner will receive $1,000 to go toward a community cause of choice.
