Numbers tell the story on city building permits

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

Like many communities in the area, New Prague experienced a decrease in the number of permits issued for housing construction in 2007. However, the number of commerical, industrial and miscellaneous permits helped balance things out.

In New Prague, a total of 880 building permits were issued in 2007, an increase of 68 from 2006, thanks to the industrial and miscellaneous categories. The total permits for 2007 are valued at approximately $19 million.

A slowing economy led to a drop in the number of housing permits - from 110 in 2006 to 23 this past year. All permits were for single-family units, and no permits were issued for either townhomes or multi-family units in 2007. The total value for those homes was approximately $4.4 million.

It was not a surprise
