Once again, here’s to volunteers

The secret to any successful event is to have good planning and good workers.

Last weekend, the New Prague High School Dance Team hosted its Second Annual Dance Invitational Tournament. There were teams from 16 schools competing in the tournament. Each school had two divisions, (Jazz and High Kick) and many of the schools had at least one, if not more than one JV or B-Squad team competing in each division. In total, there were nearly 60 dance routines run, not counting several additional exhibitions, from 9:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.

School officials, coaches and dance parents spent many hours planning all the logistics of the event, from bus parking, dressing rooms, marking times, competition, concessions and vendors that were in the commons areas. Hundreds of young ladies were in town to perform, and many of them had parents and other family members as well as friends that came along to watch the events of the day.

The organization of the event was impressive. The gym was set up so that teams alternated facing the east or west side of the gym, and parents knew which side their team would be facing ahead of time so they could sit on the right side.

While we’re talking about the dance team tournament in this column, the same kind of organization goes into any successful tournament or event in any other sport or activity. It’s the volunteers who help to make these events successful, with their thorough planning and the volunteer spirit they show, any event is bound to be a success.

Kudos to the New Prague Dance Booster Club for all the effort that went into making this event a success.
