One vet and 30 ladies craft good deeds

One veteran, Warren Ike Walter, and 30 women worked on an American Legion Auxiliary VA Hospital and Rehab project Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the American Legion clubroom in New Prague. The group worked from noon to 8 p.m. stuffing heart pillows, neck pillows and tying quilts to VA Hospital specifications.

Many of the women helping were members of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary in New Prague. However, others came to volunteer their help, including two high school students.

Heart pillows are used for all abdominal surgeries at VA medical centers. The pillows are used to help protect the incisions after the surgery. Neck pillows are used in the hospitals and in the veteran's nursing homes. Quilts are also used in these facilities.

The 31 volunteers stuffed 115 heart pillows, 125 neck pillows, and completed 9 quilts. The volunteers were: Catherine Menke, Sonja Jobes, Marian Mahowald, Gladys Busch, Ike Walter, Mary Ann Terwedo, Kim Bergo, Ann Slavik, Marie Kajer, Carol Bauer, Krista Christenson, Arlene Kabes, Lisa Korbel, Diane Hrabe, Laura Blue, Laurie Tolzmann, Janet Picha, Amanda Roe, Gertie Chlan, Emily Johnson, Linda Picka, Frances Yackley, Betty Bisek, Dolly Kabes, Joan Walter, Sally Bauer, Lynn Landmark, Sue Tuma, Mary Jirak, Donna Dols and Babe Pumper.
