One week remains to file for city offices

One week into the filing period, two candidates have filed for mayor and two for city council in New Prague.

Jeffrey Drabant and Travis Kabes have filed for a two-year term as mayor. The incumbent, Craig Sindelar, has not indicated whether he will file for another term.

Two people have filed for two four-year terms on the city council. Incumbent Rob Babione has filed for a second term, and he is joined by Charles Aldrich. Incumbent Kay Wilcox, who has the longest tenure on the current city council, has not indicated whether she plans to file for another term.

Anyone interested in filing can do so during regular office hours at the New Prague City Hall. Filing ends at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Elko New Market

Candidates for the Elko New Market City Council and Mayor can also file until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, at either the Elko City Hall or the New Market Area Hall. The two cities in southeastern Scott County will become one on January 1, 2007, and will have a new five-member council (four council members and a mayor). All spots on the council are at-large, with council members serving staggered four-year terms and the mayor a two-year term. The first election will choose two two-year council members and two four-year council members, along with a mayor.

Mayor candidates are Henry Zweber and Kent Hartzler. Four-year council candidates are Joe Molitor and Dennis Melgaard, and two-year council candidate is Linda Borgen.
