Orioles earn state tourney berth

New Prague was the first Region 3C team to punch its ticket to the State Class C Baseball tournament, defeating New Market 5-1 Tuesday, Aug. 1, in Elko. 
Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Austin Bachman hit a bases loaded bloop single to tie the game at 1-1. A wild pitch made it 2-1 in favor of New Prague. 
Aaron Shetka homered to left field in the top of the sixth to put the Orioles up 3-1. 
New Market threatened in the eighth, but did not score. In the top of the ninth, Eric Wagner hit a bases-loaded single to bring in two more runs, making it a 5-1 game. 
Joel Zimmerman got the win for New Prague, with Derek Bergstrom taking the loss.
Union Hill’s game at Faribault, also scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to heavy rains in Faribault. The game was scheduled to be played Wednesday, after this edition of The New Prague Times went to press. The winner of that game also goes to state.  
Other games on Wednesday in the loser’s bracket have Veseli vs. St. Patrick in Lonsdale and Shakopee at Montgomery. 
New Market will play the winner of Veseli v. St. Patrick on Friday. while the Union Hill/Faribault loser plays the Montgomery/Shakopee winner. Winners on Friday will also qualify for state.
