Orioles fall in semifinals
The New Prague Orioles’ 2017 baseball season ended one game short of the State Title Game, as they lost to Lake Henry 4-2 Sunday evening, Sept. 3, in Hamburg.
Austin Bachman got things going for New Prague with a two-run home run in the first inning, bringing in Justin Novak, but from that point New Prague was stymied by Lake Henry’s draftee pitchers, Patrick Courtney of New London-Spicer and Matt Imdeike of Meire Grove.
The Lakers tied the game in the third and took the lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
New Prague threatened in the top of the ninth, but was unable to score.
Courtney took the win, while Joe Sabal, draftee from Lonsdale, took the loss. Sabal pitched in relief of starter Matt Perkinson, draftee from Veseli.
Novak, Aaron Kes and Bachman each had two hits for New Prague.
Lake Henry will face Kimball for the Class C Championship at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, in Green Isle.
