Orioles top Plato at state

The New Prague Orioles broke open a tight game with a seven-run seventh inning on their way to a 12-1 win over Plato at the State Class C Amateur Baseball Tournament Friday, Aug. 23. 

Austin Bachman and Dan Novak had key hits in the Oriole rally. Bachman went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Novak went 2-for-3.

Ben Morrison, draftee from Prior Lake, pitched six innings for the win. Bill Dunker, draftee from St. Patrick, and John Krocak, draftee from Montgomery, pitched in relief. 

The Orioles will face Jordan, 5-1 winners over Bertha on Friday, in the third round of the tournament Saturday, Aug. 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Delano. 

Three other area teams will be in action this weekend. on Saturday, Union Hill will face Fergus Falls at 1:30 p.m. in Maple Lake and St. Benedict plays Belle Plaine at 7:30 p.m. in Delano. On Sunday New Market will take on Fairmont at 1:30 p.m. in Delano.
