Parishioners, others honor Father Elgar

He’s a walking example of the priesthood.

That was the assessment of Bishop Richard Pates as he spoke at a reception honoring Father Elgar Bockenfeld for his 60th anniversary of being ordained a priest. The bishop was just one of many people at a Mass of Thanksgiving held on Sunday at St. John’s Catholic Church of Union Hill in recognition of Father Elgar’s years as a priest and to celebrate his 88th birthday.
