Patty’s Place raises more than $1,000

While the effects of Hurricane Harvey on Texas has been pushed slightly aside due to Hurricane Irma, people still realize Texas residents also have a long road to recovery. On Wednesday, Sept. 6, Patty’s Place in New Prague held an American Red Cross fundraiser for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Those who donated received a free cup of coffee or hot chocolate. At the end of the day, people had donated more than $1,000.
“Some people are surprised and amazed at the amount, others are happy to hear that,” said Patty Peterson, who owns and operates the Main Street coffee shop that also serves baked goods. “Almost everyone who came in donated. Some people came in specifically for that.”
Peterson said they did a similar donation when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana. She said that people liked the idea of being able to donate to help those picking up from Hurricane Harvey.
“Not everybody knows what they can do to help and we made it easy for them,” said Peterson.
