Pedestrian struck by vehicle on Main Street

A pedestrian was injured Monday morning when he was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Main Street and First Avenue SE in New Prague.

Robert Jones, 71, of New Prague, was apparently crossing Main Street when he was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by Kelli Carter, 35, also of New Prague. Carter was southbound on First Avenue and was turning east onto Main Street.

The incident was reported at 10:49 a.m. at the southeast corner of the intersection.

New Prague Police and the New Prague Ambulance responded to the call, as well as the New Prague Fire Department. Jones was transported by ambulance to Queen of Peace Hospital in New Prague with what police described as non-incapacitating injuries to his head and face.

Traffic on Main Street was tied up for about 20 minutes after the incident, with vehicles redirected off Main Street at Columbus Avenue and at First Avenue.

No charges have been filed, but police say the incident remains under investigation.
