Piecing together comfort & hope
A small army of local men and women reports to St. Andrew Catholic Church hall in Elysian at 9 a.m. on Wednesday mornings during “quilting season.” Armed with fabric, thread, and a variety of donated items, the group quickly sets to work, only breaking for coffee and concluding with a potluck lunch. The team of volunteers, who are mostly retired, are officially known as the Mission Quilters, but the 100+ quilts, pillows, and layettes they make and donate each year are just one small piece of their larger mission.
