Polkafest to be held at Park Ballroom this weekend

This Friday, Aug. 20, through Sunday, Aug. 22, a Polkafest will be held at the New Prague Park Ballroom.

There will be three days of bands and dancing at the annual event, organized by area members of the Polka Lovers Klub of America (POLK of A). The national organization has 11 chapters and about 4,000 members.

Among the bands playing at the event will be Karl & the Country Dutchmen on Friday from 7-11 p.m. On Saturday Musical Brass will play from noon to 4 p.m., the Rhythm Playboys from 4-6 p.m. and 8-10 p.m. and Julie Lee & the White Rose Band will play from 6-8 p.m. and 10 p.m.-midnight. On Sunday Malek’s Fisherman will play from noon to 2 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. and Julie Lee & the White Rose Band will again perform from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

The annual event has drawn many people. Last year’s event had close to 1,100 people. It also has brought people from different areas of the country, from states as near as North Dakota and Iowa and as far away as Arizona, California and Texas.
