Pomije, Schoenecker will be inducted into NPHS Hall of Fame

New Prague High School will induct two members to its Hall of Fame during the school’s Evening of Excellence program at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, in the high school auditorium.

Ralph Pomije, a former school board member who later became a teacher, will receive the Distinguished Service Award. In his 26 years at NPHS, he directed 36 stage productions and helped establish a reputation of excellence for the school’s drama department.

Ray J. Schoenecker will receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Schoenecker, a 1940 graduate of New Prague High School, is a World War II veteran and served in the 20th Armored Division, which helped liberate the Dachau Concentration camp. He is a longtime member of the local veterans service organizations, and owned and operated the New Prague Feed Mill for 37 years. He also served the city of New Prague as a firefighter, including seven years as Fire Chief, and served on the City council and two terms as mayor of the community.

The two will be honored at the Evening of Excellence, which is a program that also honors current NPHS students for their academic and arts accomplishments.
