Poplau resigns as superintendent

Dr. Frankie Poplau, New Prague’s superintendent of schools since 1999, has resigned her position, effective in late August.

According to a school district spokesperson, Poplau tendered her resignation to school board chair Dan Carlson Wednesday morning, April 26. The resignation is subject to board approval. The next school board meeting is a special meeting to discuss the budget and other matters at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 1.

In a letter to board members and school staff, Poplau indicated that a professional opportunity had come up and led her to make this decision. Her last day on the job will be July 7, and with accrued vacation, her resignation date will be effective in late August.

Poplau said in the letter, I am proud of my years of service and feel secure that I am handing off to a new superintendent a district that is well poised for a bright and successful future.
