'Public art' project gets grant approval

The New Prague Arts Council, New Prague Community Education and the New Prague Chamber of Commerce have received a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council to support artists and cover the cost of creating works of art designed for public viewing.
The Creative Intersections grant is designed to develop initiatives that integrate arts and culture into plans for community development. The goal, according to the grant criteria, is to enhance the role of arts and culture as a component of community vitality.
The Arts Council will use the money to fund a series of mini-grants ranging from $300 to $2,500. According to a mini-grant application, these funds, along with support from the local arts council and chamber, will be used to commission works of art that are public in nature and can act to draw people into the community.
Examples of projects include outdoor wall murals, wind chimes, reflecting pools, statues of various sizes, metal sculptures or other works of art.
