Rain doesn’t stop Model T enthusiasts

By Patrick Fisher

Overcast skies and an on-again, off-again drizzle on Saturday, April 16, didn’t stop members of the T-Totalers from gathering at the home of Ron Aase of rural New Prague.

The T-Totalers is a club for automobile enthusiasts who own Ford Model Ts. There were 22 variations of the classic car at the Aase residence on the morning of April 16. The group began about a 50-mile trip around the area that included either passing through or stops near the communities of New Prague, Veseli, Webster, Elko, Prior Lake and St. Benedict. While all 22 cars began the trip, five had to end the trip early due to the rain.

A few of those who met at Aase’s brought their Model Ts in trailers, while others drove their automobiles there, including Gary Griffin of Lakeville and Jim Drometer of Belle Plaine.

Among those at the gathering were Steve and Mona Grimm of Montgomery and Matt and Darlisa Meger of Veseli with their 1922 Ford Model T Coupe. Mona and Matt Meger are brother and sister who, with their spouses, other siblings, Andy Meger of New Prague, David Meger and Annette Stavos, both of Lonsdale, and Rachel Meger of Heidelberg, have been working to restore the automobile. They are the children of Ann Meger of Le Center and the late Joe Bud Meger.

Their dad owned the car and drove it in parades as a clown car when they were younger, but then it went into storage in a shed. The six decided to restore the vehicle and since the late 1970s they’ve been working on it little by little.
