Rain keeps Trojan softball team off field

Continuing rains kept the New Prague High School softball team off the field twice last week. The Trojans played at Farmington Tuesday, May 10, losing 7-0 to the powerful Tiger squad, but then were rained out Thursday against Northfield and Friday against Waseca.

The Waseca game was cancelled, since it is a non-conference game and the playoffs are scheduled to begin next week.

The Trojans. 1-12 overall on the season, are scheduled to complete their schedule with four conference games in four days. They were scheduled to play at Prior Lake Tuesday and a home makeup game against Northfield Wednesday. On Thursday, they have their final home game against Shakopee, then on Friday, they have a makeup game at Holy Angels.

The Section 2AAA softball tournament is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 24. Seedings have not been announced. All games are played at Caswell Park in North Mankato

Tigers 7, Trojans 0

One bad inning made all the difference for the Trojans Tuesday, as they allowed seven runs in the fourth inning in a 7-0 loss to Farmington.

Trojan pitcher Katie Trewartha was cruising along through three innings, allowing only a pair of singles, but in the fourth inning, the first four hitters reached base, starting a big rally for the Tigers.

After a sacrifice fly made it 3-0, Farmington got two more hits. They ended with seven hits on the inning.

New Prague managed just four hits. Ashley Feneis singled in the first and was stranded at second, Jodie Jabas singled in the third but was retired on a double play. Laura Knoke singled in the fifth, but was stranded at second and Kacy Ambroz singled and stole second to lead off the sixth, but the next three hitters all struck out.
