Raymond Prochaska, 87

  Raymond Ray Albert Prochaska, 87, of Montgomery died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague. 

Ray was born in rural New Prague on May 4, 1922. He was a son of James and Dorothy (Weiers) Prochaska.  He attended school in Heidelberg and then joined the U.S. Navy in 1942, serving during World War II until 1946. Upon returning home, Ray married Dorothy Laban on October 16, 1948, at St. Scholastica Catholic Church in Heidelberg. He farmed in the Heidelberg area for 20 years, then moved to Montgomery in 1970. He also worked as a truck driver and for New Prague Lumber.  Ray was a member of American Legion Post #79 and enjoyed playing cards and fixing things.

  He is survived by his wife; children Raenell (Harvey) Dorn, Eden Prairie, Gordon Prochaska (and Jinny McVoy) Montgomery, Rod Prochaska (and Peggy Everson), Montgomery, Darlene (Steve) Walsh, Prior Lake, Marlene Prochaska, Shoreview and Mike (Cathy) Prochaska, New Prague; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John and Gilbert; and great-granddaughter Ashley Prochaska.

Funeral services were held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery on Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. 

Burial was at the St. Scholastica Church Cemetery in Heidelberg, with military honors provided by the Montgomery Area Veterans Honor Guard. 

Visitation was held at Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
