Ready to hit the road
Eight large tanks manufactured by Chart Industries’ New Prague plant are preparing to hit the road next week. The tanks are of two sizes, five of them are 166 feet long and can hold 127,000 gallons and the other three are 158 feet long and can hold 168,000 gallons. Beginning Monday, Oct. 23, and over the next three weeks, the tanks will be moved, one at a time, to Savage, where they will be loaded on three barges to head down the Minnesota and Mississippi Rivers, then on a ship and taken to Florida. The tanks will travel on Highway 21 south to Main Street (Highway 13/19) and then east to Highway 13 and north through Prior Lake to Savage, the same route used when the company shipped two tanks in 2015. The Minnesota State Patrol will provide an escort and crews from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and electric utility companies along the route will follow along to move overhead wires and traffic lights. The tanks were purchased by an unnamed private spaceflight company to store fuel.
