Recount set for city council race

A recount for the New Prague City Council race will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at the New Prague City Hall, 118 Central Ave. N.

Ballots will be counted by hand for two candidates - Shawn Ryan and Pat Scripture. In the results that were certified by the city at its canvassing meeting Monday, Nov. 8, David Bruzek had 1,515 votes, Ryan 995, Scripture 983 and Andrea Burkhardsmeier 528. Because the margin of victory for the second council seat was less than one-half of one percent, Scripture had the right to ask for a recount. The city received a request after Monday's canvassing meeting.

Ballots will be brought from the county courthouses in Shakopee and Le Center for the recount and returned to their respective courthouses immediately after, since they will be needed for and expected gubernatorial recount, which is expected to start after Thanksgiving. The hand recount will start at 10 a.m. and is expected to take several hours.
