Richard Kalina

Richard Kalina, age 83, passed away peacefully after a sudden illness on Sunday, July 24th, 2016, surrounded by his family, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth MN. 

Richard was born at home on the farm near Lonsdale on August 10, 1932 to Eman and Mary (Skluzacek) Kali- na. He married Delores Lillian Simek on October 27th, 1953 at the church of St. Wenceslaus. 

He farmed most of his life, on the family farm near Lonsdale and also worked as a carpenter for many years. 

Richard loved his family, especially the little ones. He loved gardening and flying remote control airplanes, loved woodworking in his shop, and music. He played the drums and played in an Old Time/Country band for 15 plus years, and belonged to the Czech Concertina Club. He was a member of the Lonsdale Lions club, the Lonsdale Golden Agers, and was a lifetime parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Lonsdale, ushered and belonged to the church choir for many years, playing drums for the Festival Polka Masses. 

Richard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delores; and 4 children, sons, Kenny (Dolo) of Le Center, Rodney (Debbie) of Hastings, Roger (Sue Tomlin) of Credit River, and daughter Laurie (Phil) Preston of Lonsdale. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, Terry (Katie) Kalina, Jaime (Bradley) Gergen, Michael (Angie) Kalina, Annie Kalina (Jesse Heck- man), Kevin Kalina, Becky Neisen, Jeff Neisen, Amy Neisen, Ashley Kalina (Matthew Rhett), Dalton Kalina; Kyle Kalina, Kelsey (Luke) Simon, Andrew Pre- ston and Nathan Preston; and 12 great grandchildren, Cain, Harty, Cal and Elliot Kalina, Olivia, Stella, Lucy and Jackson Gergen, Emma and Henry Kalina, Charlie and Ivan Simon. Also brother, Roman (Donna) Kalina, sis- ter in law Beverly Kalina Pomije, brothers in law Jim Shambour, Don (LaDonna) Simek and Bob (Carolyn) Simek, sister in law, Angie Bastyr and step mother in law, Mary Ellen Simek. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eman and Mary; daughter and son in law, Karen and Gerald (Shim) Neisen; brother, Francis and sister, Maxine Shambour, mother and father in law, Joe and Ludy Simek, and brother in law Richard Bastyr. 

Visitation was held at White Funeral Home in Lonsdale, on Friday, July 29th from 4-8 pm and on Saturday, from 9-9:45 am. Mass of the Christian Burial was held at 10 am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Lonsdale, burial was at the parish cemetery immediately following.
