Rita Barten, 73

Rita Frances Barten, 73, of Mankato, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rita was born on June 14, 1932 in Scott County to Martin and Frances (Trzecinski) Cemensky. She graduated from Montgomery High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Ambrose Barten on May 19, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lexington. Before retiring, Rita worked for Hubbard Mill and the KTOE radio station.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years; two sons, Michael (Debra) Barten and Thomas (Debra) Barten; one daughter, Sharon Johnson; a brother, Marty (Harriet) Cemensky of Montgomery; six grandchildren, Jason (Lexi) Barten, Eric Barten, Jessica and Nicole Barten, Stacy Johnson and Angela (Dan) McConville; two great-granddaughters; and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Brandon Barten; and a brother, Donald Cemensky.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Colletti and Rev. Francis Kunz officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Pallbearers were Stacie Johnson, Nicole Barten, Eric Barten, Jessica Barten, Jason Barten and Joe Lyons.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home in Mankato, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and one hour before services Saturday at the church.
