Robert J. (Bob) Tuma, 76
Robert J. (Bob) Tuma, 76, of Lonsdale, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2017.
Bob was born to John and Ludmilla (Kalina) Tuma on November 13, 1940, during the Armistice Day blizzard in the home he had lived in for all of his 76 years. He graduated from New Prague High School in 1958, and took over the family farm shortly thereafter. He then met and married the love of his life, Claudia (Hubbard), on September 1, 1972. Throughout their yearly years, they welcomed three children, Robert Miles, MaryAnn, and Michael John.
Bob was a beloved lifelong member of the community. Bob was an avid DFL supporter, and through his passion for politics, he became involved by participating on community boards such as the Webster Township Board, New Prague School Board, and eventually as Rice County Commissioner. In his later years, Bob enjoyed driving school bus for ISD #196 and returned to farming and family life.
Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Claudia and his three children, Robert M. (Angela) of Prior Lake; MaryAnn (Christopher) of Lonsdale; and Michael of Burnsville, and his three beautiful grandchildren, whom he loved more than anything in the world, Elizabeth (12), Grace (12), and Alexis (11). He is also survived by his siblings, Marion (Ellard) Trnka and Leonard (Betty) Tuma and many nieces and nephews.
Bob’s greatest gift to us all during his 76 years was his devotion to his family and friends. His love and character will always be the best gift to us all. Blessed be his memory.
Visitation was 3:00-7:00 PM, Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Benson & Langehough Funeral Home in Northfield. Funeral services were at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at the Church of St. Dominic in Northfield. Visitation continued at the church on Tuesday starting at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for the University of Minnesota Masonic Cancer Center or Domaci Inc. (Domaci Dancers and Czech Heritage Junior Royalty.)
