Robert Javurek, 92
Robert J. “Bud” Javurek, 92, of New Prague, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague.
Bud was born on May 28, 1920, in New Prague, a son of Joseph J. and Julia (Uhlir) Javurek. A lifelong resident of New Prague, he attended St. Wenceslaus School and New Prague High School, graduating in 1939. He later attended Dunwoody Technical Institute in Minneapolis, and did masonry work with his father. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII (1942- 45), and married Stella Wolf on October 22, 1953, at St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague. Bud also worked as a custodian at New Prague High School from 1974- 1986. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Parish, and a charter member of the New Prague VFW. Bud collected coins, watched the Twins and Vikings, and loved politics. He also played cards and bingo, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife; two sisters Lorraine Link, Shakopee, and Charlotte “Shirley” Hentges, Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Lucille Novak; and niece Donna Herda. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.
Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague, with military rites conducted by the New Prague Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Donald Link Jr., Timothy Link, David Hentges, Karl Brown, James Ericson, John Andren, Peter Vollmar, Jerry Preisen and Bruce Wolf.
Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
