Rodney Fierst, 57

Rodney G. Fierst, 57, of New Prague, died on Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.

Rodney was born to Mahlon and Tillie (Peterka) Fierst on June 11, 1947, at New Prague. He attended the school in Veseli, St. Wenceslaus School, New Prague High School and Mankato Technical School for auto body repair.

Rodney married Charlene Novak on May 11, 1968, in Veseli. He was an auto body repairman at Veseli (Rod’s Auto Body) and at C Lind Ford in New Prague, Wolf Motors in Jordan and Rod’s Auto Body in New Prague. Rodney joined the U.S. Army on November 3, 1966, at Fort Bliss, TX, and was discharged on October 31, 1969, at Fort Hood, TX. He attained the rank of Sgt. (T) and was a Viet Nam War Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and a past commander of the Post, VFW, NRA, and the New Prague Jaycees. Rod also served as the booking agent for the New Prague Park Ballroom.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene, New Prague; son, Jeffrey (Rosalia) Fierst, Santa Teresa, NM; daughter, Nicole (Joseph) Sumner, Minnetonka; one brother, Randy (Nancy) Fierst, New Prague; one sister, Roxanne (Kenneth) Novak, Veseli; four grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Zachary and Victoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon and Tillie Fierst.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Father George Freeman officiated.

Visitation was held at Bruzek Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Pallbearers were Eric, Christopher and Les Fierst, Louis and Andrew Novak, Dustin and Tobin Vollmar and Anthony Herda.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
