Roger G. Schons, 91

Roger G. Schons, 91, of Faribault, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the Lodge on Summit Oaks in Burnsville.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Canice Catholic Church in Kilkenny, with Fr. George Grafsky, officiating.  Interment was held at Calvary Cemetery in Kilkenny. Memorial visitation was held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault.

Roger George was born on April 1, 1925, in Mankato to Nicholas and Coletta (Panter) Schons. He attended school in Mankato before moving to Iowa. He was united in marriage to Donna Schroeder on February 12, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa. They farmed in Iowa until 1959, then moved to the Montgomery area and continued farming.  

In 1974, health issues caused Roger to transition from farming to sales, selling Pioneer Seed Corn for 24 years. Roger served on the St. Canice Church Board and was instrumental in the building of the church social hall. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and time with his family. He and Donna also enjoyed traveling to many places, often to auctions to purchase antiques. Donna preceded him in death on January 15, 1989.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Suk) Schons of Faribault, Paul Schons of Mankato, Kathleen Christensen of Le Center, Bonnie Davidson Few (Pete) of Lakeville, and Diane Schons of Prior Lake; six grandchildren, Steven (Debbie) Schons, Sandra (Jon) Schell, Jennifer Christensen, Travis (Tricia) Christensen, Nicole (Jeremy) Ahrens, and Jason (Heather) Davidson; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; parents, Nicholas and Coletta; two brothers, Francis and LeRoy Schons; sister, Mary Schons; and son-in-law, Denny Christensen.
