The New Prague City Council awarded the bid for construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Highway 19 and 11th Ave. NW to Chard Tiling and Excavating of Belle Plaine.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 9, and is expected to last until mid-November. The detour will route motorists on Highway 21 and Scott County Roads 2 and 11.
Access to Raven Stream Elementary School, near the intersection, will be from Sixth Street NW.
Chard was the lowest of six bidders for the project. The engineer's estimate for the project was $825,658, and the Chard bid came in at $805,891.
Chris Cavett of the engineering firm Short Elliot Hendrickon Inc. recommended awarding the bid to Chard.
Funding for the project, on the west entrance to New Prague, will come from three sources: $395,00 will come from Federal Aid through the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), $185,000 from a MnDOT cooperative agreement funding and the remainder will come from Municipal State Aid. The city will also assess benefitting properties.
