Sampson's homer gives Legion team win

New Prague's Post 45 American Legion baseball team won two of three games last week and has a 3-2 record after two weeks of play.

New Prague defeated Farmington 12-2 on Tuesday, June 15, and Red Wing 9-8 on Monday, June 21. They lost to Northfield 12-7 on Wednesday, June 16.

Post 45 was scheduled to face Woodbury in a doubleheader Tuesday, June 22. They host Red Wing at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at Memorial Park and play in a doubleheader at South St. Paul on Monday, June 28, beginning at 6 p.m. The team will host Lonsdale at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1.



New Prague 12, Farmington 2

New Prague scored three runs in the second and never trailed in a 12-2 five-inning win over Farmington June 15.

New Prague had 11 hits, with Dan Ring and Tyler Busch both going 2-for-2. Ring hit a two-run homer in the fourth. Other hits were by Ben Trewartha, Scott Allar, Cody Sampson, Luke Busch, Zach Dubanoski, Nolan Hodapp and Curt Brezina. The game ended on the 10-run rule on a two-run double by Luke Busch in the fifth.

Brezina pitched five innings for the win. He allowed three hits and struck out four.

Northfield 12,

New Prague 7

Four first-inning runs by Northfield set the tone for the game as they defeated New Prague 12-7 June 16 at New Prague.

After falling behind, Post 45 tried to get back into the game. Austin Bachman scored on a base hit by Ring in the first, while Allar and Trewartha drove in runs in the second and Dubanoski walked and came home on an error in the third. However Northfield kept the pressure on New Prague pitching and never trailed in the game.

New Prague had seven hits, by Bachman, Ring, Allar, Tyler Busch, Tony Schmitz, Brezina and Luke Busch. Trewartha started and took the loss, allowing 10 hits in 4-1/3 innings. Chase Buthe pitched 2-2/3 innings of relief, allowing four hits and striking out one.

New Prague 9,

Red Wing 8

New Prague scored four runs in the second and built a 7-1 lead, only to see Red Wing come back and take the lead. However Cody Sampson's two-run homer in the top of the seventh put Post 45 back on top and gave them a 9-8 win.

Nolan Hodapp drove in two runs with a double for the key hit in the second inning.

New Prague had eight hits through four innings, but only had one - Sampson's homer - the rest of the way. Sampson had two hits, with the others coming from Dubanoski, Tyler Busch, Hodapp, Brezina, Brett Kriha, Trewartha and Bachman.

Bachman was the starting pitcher for New Prague, going 5-1/3 innings. He allowed five hits and struck out six. Buthe pitched 1-2/3 innings and got the win, allowing one hit and striking out four.
