Saturday sports update
Two New Prague Trojan gymnasts claimed bronze medals at the State Class A individual meet Saturday at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul. Brooke Ellanson took third place on the uneven bars with a score of 9.2, while Jess Hoffman claimed third on the balance beam, earning a 9.5. Five other Trojans took part in individual competition, with Ellanson and Hoffman the only ones to earn medals. It was Hoffman's second state tournament medal. She placed sixth on the floor last year.
One New Prague High School wrestler earned a trip to the State Wrestling Tournament, which starts Wednesday evening at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Eric Grabosky won the Section 2AA title at 171 pounds with a 10-8 decision over top-seeded Eric Pawelk of Waconia. It is Grabosky's second trip to state. Erick Pendergast took third at 130 pounds. He lost his first match of the tournament, then won four straight matches before losing in the true-second' match.
The Trojan boys hockey team lost to top-seeded Rochester Lourdes 3-2 in overtime Saturday afternoon. Schyler Adams and Seth Ambroz scored goals for New Prague. Trojan goaltender Collin Schoenecker was spectacular in the nets
