Saturday update: Wrestling, gymnastics and more...

Two New Prague High School wrestlers are headed to the state Class AA wrestling tournament, which begins Wednesday, March 3, at the Xcel Energy Center. They placed in the top two at the Section meet Saturday, Feb. 27, at Delano.

Seniors Kody Dolezal and Jay Reinke will compete at state for New Prague. Dolezal won the championship at 140 pounds with a 7-2 decision over Luke Schmit of New Ulm. He enters the state tourney with a 18-14 record. Reinke placed second at 215 pounds, losing to Jake Schmidt of New Ulm in the championship match, then defeating Mario Arroyo of Montgomery-Lonsdale/Le Center 7-2 in the true second match. Reinke has a 16-3 record. Placing third for New Prague were Trevor Westerlund at 103 and Morgan Parriott at 125. Placing fourth was Luke Ritter at 160. Dakota Cole (130) and Alex Mueller (152) placed fifth and Natalie Rutt (112), Nathan Preston (171) and Brandon Svoboda (285) placed sixth.

Six Trojan gymnasts competed in the State Class A individual tournament at the U of M Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis Saturday. Senior Jess Hoffman placed fifth on the floor exercise with a 9.475, while Laura Busch, also a senior, was sixth on the bars with a 9.375. Hoffman finished 11th in the all-around. Other Trojans competing were Sydney Samson, Brooke Ellanson, Ashley Wagner and Sarah Hoffman.

The Trojan boys hockey team was eliminated in the Section 1A tournament, losing 4-1 to Rochester Lourdes. The Trojans' only goal was by Zach Adams in the first period. Lourdes plays Red Wing Thursday, March 4, in Rochester for the section championship.

The Trojan girls basketball team drew the top seed for the Section 1AAA tournament and will host Austin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3.
