School board approves spring break calendar
Pack your bags and schedule your flights. The Tri-City United School District has an official spring break on its calendar next year — but just for next year, at least for now.
The board approved the calendar at its regular meeting on Monday. Last month, the motion to approve the 2017-18 calendar with a scheduled spring break failed with a 3-3 vote because the seventh board member wasn’t present to break the tie.
On Monday, board member Michelle Borchardt made a motion to approve Calendar A with a spring break scheduled for Monday, March 26 to 30, 2018. Member Krista Goettl seconded the motion, and the full board of seven members discussed the option.
Member Kevin Huber, who had voted against the same motion last month, said he had since reached out to community members for their opinions. The responses, he noted, were split in half, in favor and against. However, one concern resonated with people regardless of the calendar choice. “People didn’t want to go to school in June,” he said.
