School board candidates answer questions at forum
Nine candidates running for the three open seats on the Tri-City School Board answered a variety of questions during the candidate forum on Monday, Oct. 24.
The Forum was moderated by high school social studies teacher, Brian Mikel. To keep the event moving along, each question posed to the candidates came with a time limit for responses that was monitored by social studies teacher Tracy Stepka.
Questions during the almost two-hour forum dealt with a variety of topics. The first was how candidates would fulfill the TCU Mission Statement if they were elected. Responses included creating a vision, considering all sides, and working to unite and engage communities. Some candidates added that more class options (especially in the trade areas) needed to be explored for the students.
Three questions came from students in the high school senior government classes, who asked candidates what their plans are to address the growing enrollment and limited space in TCU schools; what a board member’s responsibility is to the school board; and what they feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the TCU district.
