School district using caution in watching for signs of swine flu

The New Prague Area Schools have been taking precautions in light of the recent cases of H1N1 (Swine Flu) have been identified in the United States.

Last week, a confirmed case of the flu led to the closure of a middle school nd private school in Cold Spring, and several other schools in the state were closed for a day or two due to suspected cases of the virus.

According to a press release issued by New Prague Schools, the district is working with Scott County and the Minnesota Department of Health and to receive regular updates.

The district passed along some tips on how to prevent the flu.

• If you or your child is sick, stay home from work, school, and social gatherings. Keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick also.

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

• Handwashing is vital. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you cough or sneeze.

• Cover our nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away immediately after you use it.

• Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs often spread this way.

• Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious foods.

The school district's Health Services Staff is monitoring student health and checking on patterns in absences.

As a School District we will proceed with caution
