School evacuated following gas line break
A broken gas line caused by road construction resulted in the evacuation of New Prague Central Education Campus Tuesday, June 7.
The building, which includes the sixth grade annex, was vacated shortly after the leak was reported at 2:10 p.m.
Students were moved to the middle school across the street for the remainder of the day, and buses that usually line up along Central Avenue S., were rerouted to Seventh Street NE. School was dismissed at its usual time, about 2:40 p.m.
New Prague Police Chief Mark Vosejpka said the New Prague Fire and Police departments were on the scene. Houses along First Avenue NW, west of the CEC, were also evacuated. There were no injuries.
Firefighters remained on site until crews from CenterPoint Energy arrived to fix the ruptured line.
